Traffic police in Nanchang, east China's Jiangxi province, have put up some 50 drunk-driving-related warning boards in front of larger restaurants around the city, reminding those who may drive after getting drunk will all be put into custody, jxnews.com.cn reported on Wednesday.

The report quoted a local policeman as saying that the boards which utter warnings - "People who drive when they get drunk shall be detained!" - are just part of their psychological deterrent to any drivers who may possibly violate the rules against drunk driving.

Some restaurant customers and passersby said they supported the move because they believed that the warning boards can effectively thwart people from drunk driving.

The report also said the manager of one local restaurant felt happy to contribute to the campaign against drunk driving because he said that the boards put up in front of his restaurant had not affected his business anyway.
