Studying at Beijing Language and Culture University

Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) was founded in 1962 and is the only international university in China whose main task is teaching the Chinese language and culture to foreign students.

The BLCU provide both non-degree programs and degree programs. The names of the program and its required qualifications are as follows:

- College certificate program and BA program

The applicant should be a senior high school graduate or with equivalent schooling in the age bracket of 18-50. And they should pass the corresponding entrance exam or oral exam and interview.

- MA program

The applicant should be aged under 40, have a Bachelor's degree in a related field or evidence of its equivalent, and be able to pass the qualifying examination.

- Ph.D. program

The applicant should be aged under 45, have the equivalent of a Master's degree conferred by a Chinese university, two recommendation letters from his/her advisors (full or associate professors), an HSK band 9 certificate or (C level or above for advanced leaner) and be able to pass the qualifying examination.

- Advanced visiting scholar program

The applicant should have the equivalent of a Master's degree conferred by a Chinese university or the Ph.D. candidacy, and aim at pursuing further research on a specialized subject.

- Refresher program

The applicant should have finished two years of university education or with equivalent schooling and be in the age bracket of 18-60.

- Language learners program

The applicant should be a senior high school graduate in the age bracket of 18-50.

- Short-term refresher program

The applicant should be a senior high school graduate in the age bracket of 18-60.

- Teacher training program

The applicant should have a Bachelor's degree, and is teaching or intends to teach Chinese as a second language. (BA degree or above)
