American Airlines flight makes emergency landing
Adjust font size:

American Airlines Flight 81 made an emergency landing at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Tuesday after the pilot reported smoke in the aircraft.

No injuries were reported and everyone got off the aircraft safely via emergency slides after it landed on Runway 7, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The jetliner was bound for Honolulu but turned back for LAX after the pilot reported smoke in the aircraft, said Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration.

Firefighters were brought to the scene to help passengers as they slid down two emergency chutes aboard the plane.

Smoke was detected in the cabin before the landing, but no fire was reported inside the plane, Humphrey said.

The source of the smoke was unknown, he said.
