Six-party talks continue on verification protocol

Chief delegates to the six-party talks continued their discussion Tuesday focusing on the verification protocol of denuclearization of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The second day gathering of the chief delegates started on Tuesday morning.

China's top negotiator to the nuclear talks Wu Dawei proposed the talks focus on three major issues including verification, continuous implementation of the second-phase action plan, and the establishment of a peace and security mechanism in northeast Asia when addressing the opening ceremony of the meeting Monday.

This is the third chief delegates' meeting during the sixth round of the six-party talks, involving China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Russia and Japan, after a five-month suspension.

Christopher Hill, head of the U.S. delegation, said on Monday night that six parties had discussed three issues in the one-hour meeting, including fuel oil, the issues of disablement schedule and verification.

He said the Chinese delegation were preparing a verification protocol for the next day's discussion after a series of preliminary meetings with the other five parties.
