The Afghan ambassador-designate to Pakistan Abdul Khaliq Farahi was kidnapped in the northeastern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Monday.
The vehicle carrying Abdul Khaliq Farahi was attacked by unidentified gunmen in Peshawar, capital city of North West Frontier Province and the driver was killed, according to News Network International (NNI) news agency.
The gunmen kidnapped Abdul Khaliq Farahi from the Hayatabad area in Peshawar.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Farahi has been serving as Consul General in Peshawar since 2001 and was recently designated ambassador to Pakistan, accordingto NNI.
The Afghan Foreign Ministry sent his credentials to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry a month ago and has been awaiting the acceptance.
There was no security with the envoy when he was near his residence, witnesses said. The NNI quoted the police as saying that they were not informed about his visit to Peshawar otherwise he would be provided security.
