A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Beijing on Tuesday that the Chinese government is willing to listen to complaints and find out what exactly are the problems relating to the US recall of China-made cribs.
China "attaches high importance to product quality, especially to the quality of products relating to children," Qin Gang said in a reply to a reporter's question at a routine press conference about a US company's recall of China-made cribs.
According to foreign media reports, Delta Enterprise on Monday announced a voluntary recall of nearly 1.6 million cribs made in China, Indonesia and Taiwan after two babies died.
The company's website says the cribs were made between 1995 and 2007 and use a trigger lock design.
Qin said China did not receive any complaints about the cribs and stressed that the Chinese government took product quality "very seriously".
He called on Delta Enterprise to communicate with Chinese manufacturers and relevant authorities to determine which sector the problem came from – design, production or circulation.
"We are willing to listen to complaints and find out what exactly are the problems," said Qin.
