Chinese envoy to attend UN debate

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend an open debate at the United Nations (UN) Security Council scheduled for Wednesday.

Wang was invited by South African President Thabo Mbeki. He will go to New York as the special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the debate at the UN headquarters will focus on enhancing cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, particularly the African Union.
