China, US to advance economic ties
Adjust font size:

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu on Tuesday expressed the hope that China and the United States would make in-depth discussion on related strategic issues, so as to push for the healthy growth of bilateral economic ties.

Jiang told a regular press conference that Henry M. Paulson, special representative of the US President George W. Bush and the US Treasury Secretary, will visit China from April 2 to 3.

During Paulson's stay in Beijing, Chinese President Hu Jintao's Special Representative and Vice Premier Wang Qishan will hold work talks with Paulson and exchange views on China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) and bilateral relations.

China and the United States had decided to hold the fourth round of the SED at Washington in June this year. Wang Qishan and Paulson will jointly preside this dialogue, Jiang said, adding that currently, the two sides at working level were making active coordination on relevant issues.

China hoped that the two nations would achieve more agreements through the discussion on these comprehensive, strategic and long-term issues, Jiang said.

Dalai Lama urged to stop all separatist, sabotage activities

China's Foreign Ministry urged the Dalai Lama to stop all separatist and sabotage activities if he really wants to contact and consult with the central government.

Jiang made the remarks when asked to comment on a letter of appeal released by the Dalai Lama on March 28 to Chinese nationals around the globe.

She said the Dalai Lama on the one hand repeatedly claimed he wanted to consult with the central government. On the other hand, he stirred up social turmoil that disturbed the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games and seriously destroyed the basis for contact and consultation.
