Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said at a regular press conference on Thursday that China will continue to work with other countries to contribute to world peace, stability and prosperity.
"We advocate and devote ourselves to jointly building a harmonious world featuring lasting peace and common prosperity with other countries," said Qin at a regular press conference when asked how China will play its role in the international community in the future.
He said China has always advocated that all countries should coexist peacefully and strengthen cooperation in accordance with the UN Charter, the international law and the universally acknowledged norms governing international relations, and resolve international and regional disputes in this spirit.
China also advocated that different cultures should respect each other, strengthen dialogue and coexist equally and harmoniously, to realize common prosperity.
China advocated mutual benefit in world economy, he added.
"China will continue to stick to the road of peaceful development and the opening policy featuring mutual benefit, and make its due contribution to world peace, stability and prosperity together with all the other countries," said Qin.
China safe for foreigners
Qin said China will ensure foreign tourists' safety during the Beijing Olympics in August.
"Especially on the occasion of the Beijing Olympics, there will be a great number of foreign tourists here and we will definitely take more effective measures in this regard," Qin said.
China has always attached great importance to the legal rights and interests of foreigners in China, Qin said in response to a question concerning Wednesday's hijacking involving 10 Australian tourists in northwest Chinese city of Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province.
A Chinese man armed with explosives hijacked a tourist bus in a downtown square, taking an Australian tourist and a translator as hostage. Police shot and killed the man after unsuccessful negotiating. No one else was hurt.
