The Chinese Wu Opera Troupe performed Monday in the traditional international theater festival "Santiago a Mil (Santiago to One Thousand) 2009".
"Opera Wu" lasted 70 minutes and emphasized the different elements of millennium China, especially mythological creatures, martial arts and dances.
The Wu Opera Troupe, from eastern China's Zhejiang province, will also give a parade with dragon and lion dances while wearing masks and traditional costumes.
The parade, led by Chinese federations in Chile, will walk by the traditional Ahumada pass to the main avenue in the city.
Dragons and lions are the most traditional elements in Chinese culture. Dragons are symbols of majesty while lions represent happiness and good luck.
The international theater festival, held from Sunday to January 25, has presented performance arts programs in Santiago since 1995.
During this year's festival, about 150,000 people are expected to see local shows and those from China, Japan, Argentina, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, Spain and France.
