The 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and
Development, to be held here on December 3- 7, will pay high
attention to creating opportunities for disabled people, local
newspaper Vietnam News reported Wednesday.
The meeting will review progress in social welfare and
development in the region and work out ways for ASEAN members to
cooperate more in the future, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalid
and Social Affairs Dam Huu Dac was quoted by the newspaper as
saying.
More than 120 delegates including ASEAN social welfare ministers
and partners, the ASEAN Secretary General and Secretariat, and
representatives of international organizations are expected to
attend the meeting.
Before the meeting, a forum will be held for representatives
from government and non-governmental organizations of ASEAN member
countries to work out recommendations for the meeting.
The meeting is held every three years and the last ASEAN social
welfare ministerial meeting was held in Thailand in 2004.
