Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said in New York on Friday
that China will, as always, support the work of the United Nations
and of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
China positively evaluates the work of Ban since he assumed the
post of the UN secretary-general, Yang said during his meeting with
Ban on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the UN General
Assembly.
Ban, for his part, thanked China for its support to the world
body, saying China's role is crucial to the UN, and that the UN
attaches great importance to its partnership with China.
Yang expressed appreciation for Ban's adherence to the UN
Charter and UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and the just stance
taken on the separatist activities staged by "Taiwan independence"
forces such as the attempt to "apply for UN membership under the
name of Taiwan."
The two also discussed Darfur, the nuclear issue on the Korean
Peninsular, climate change, and the situation in Myanmar.
