Strong earthquake jolts southern Japan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 rocked Japan's southern coast Wednesday morning, the country's Meteorological Agency reported.

The quake jolted the coast of Miyakojima, a southern island near Okinawa, at 9:18 a.m., it said.

There are no immediate reports of damage or casualties. No tsunami warning has been issued.
