Arch swindler Bernard Madoff, who was sentenced to 150 years in prison, was transferred to a federal prison in Butner, North Carolina on Tuesday, local media reported.

This federal prison is reportedly famous for its good hospital facilities. Madoff's family had been worried about the environment of the prison, so this might be good news for them after Madoff was arrested.

On June 29, the 71-year-old Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison for financial fraud. Madoff admitted that he defrauded thousands of investors of billions of U.S dollars.

Madoff's crime was the most sweeping Ponzi scheme in the history. Judge Denny Chin said that his fraud was "extraordinarily evil."

Madoff had been held at the federal jail in Manhattan since March 16. Before he was moved to North Carolina, he had been staying temporarily at an Atlanta prison.

According to local media reports, the prison where Madoff will be staying for the rest of his life has good reputation for treating prisoners fairly.

Local media said that Madoff's sentence has already been reduced by 20 years for his "good behavior." His release date is November 12, 2139, 130 years and 4 months from now.
