China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) Monday said they would use their inter-parliamentary regular exchange to promote bilateral relations.

"The establishment and development of the (regular exchange) mechanism has injected new vitality to help boost bilateral relations," said Chinese senior legislator Wu Bangguo when meeting with Lee Yoon-seong, deputy speaker of the ROK National Assembly, at the fourth meeting in Beijing.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, said the NPC hoped to expand cooperation between the two parliaments.

Wu also suggested stepping up exchanges and cooperation among parliamentary special committees.

Lee said the ROK National Assembly would continue its efforts to push forward ROK-China relations.

In the fourth meeting of the parliamentary exchange convened Monday, delegates exchanged views on bilateral relations, exchanges between the parliaments, economic and trade cooperation, energy security and climate change.

The NPC and ROK National Assembly launched the regular exchange scheme in January 2006.
