Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang Thursday urged the international community to abide by a single standard in dealing with terrorism.

Qin was speaking at a ministry press conference about the deadly riot in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Sunday, which left at least 156 people dead and more than 1,000 injured.

He said terrorism was a public enemy of the international community.

For China and neighboring counties, the three forces of "terrorism, separatism and extremism" were regional public enemies, which the international community should unite to combat, take the same actions and improve cooperation, he said.

It should not take two different standards, he said.

In both the United Nations and with its regional neighbors, China had always supported and cooperated in international actions against terrorism, he said.

Qin said the Chinese government had evidence that the people suspected of inciting the riot had received training from terrorist organizations abroad.

"They have countless ties with the three forces abroad, so we urge that all countries in this region to enhance cooperation to secure stability and peace in our region," he said.

The government said it has evidence to prove that the separatist World Uyghur Congress led by Rebiya Kadeer of inciting and organizing the riot.
