Vietnam said it believed the Chinese government was taking appropriate measures to restore public order and social stability in Urumqi, capital of the northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, after a riot claimed 156 lives and injured more than 1,000 people, Vietnam News reported on Wednesday.
Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung made the remarks on Tuesday in response to reporters' questions about Vietnam's reaction to the situation in Urumqi.
Dung said Vietnam has closely followed the unrest in Urumqi.
Xinjiang police said they had evidence that separatist World Uygur Congress led by Rebiya Kadeer masterminded the riot.
