Sources from the airport confirmed to Xinhua on Monday that the terminal will be closed for at least 48 hours.
On Sunday, a clash between Zelaya's followers and the police killed two people and injured tens of others.
The clash occurred minutes before Zelaya's attempt to land in Honduras on a plane offered by Venezuela. It tried twice to land at the Tegucigalpa airport, but the military impeded the landing by parking vehicles in the middle of the runways.
Zelaya traveled on Monday morning to Nicaragua, according to Salvadorian communication secretary from the presidency, David Rivas.
Zelaya was ousted and forced into exile in Costa Rica eight days ago. Roberto Micheletti took over the presidency and formed anew cabinet.
