A U.S. soldier was killed and another was hurt Monday in an apparent drive-by shooting at a military recruiting station in Little Rock, Ark., authorities said.
The second soldier's injuries were not life-threatening, Little Rock police spokesman Terry Hastings told reporters.
Authorities were notified about 11:19 a.m. eastern time (1519 GMT) about a shooting at the recruiting station, Army/Navy Career Center.
Officers who arrived at the scene found the two soldiers had been shot.
The soldiers were helping the station to recruit new soldiers at the time.
Police believe a man in a black SUV drove by and fired on the soldiers as they were standing outside, Hastings said.
A suspect was arrested after officers saw a vehicle matching the description on a nearby interstate and pulled it over.
Authorities searched the vehicle and found an assault rifle, Hastings said.
A bomb squad was called in, as police were concerned about two bags in the vehicle, but no explosives were found, he said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into the incident as police are trying to determine a motive in the shooting, Hastings said.
He said it is not known whether the recruiting office was specifically targeted by the attacker or randomly chosen.
Neither the victims nor suspects were named by authorities.
