Chinese VP vows to advance ties with Canada
Adjust font size:

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday pledged to enhance healthy and stable relations with Canada.

"We will work with Canada to increase exchanges and cooperation and properly solve sensitive issues," Xi told visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon.

China and Canada, being important nations of the Asia-Pacific region, share complementary economies and similar stances over many major international and regional issues, he said.

Xi also applauded Canada's great support for China's earthquake relief work in the last year.

Echoing Xi, Cannon said Canada-China relationship was important for both the two peoples.

The Canadian government paid great attention to ties with China, and would enhance cooperation with the country in various fields and increase coordination on global issues, including responding to financial crisis, he said.

Canada adhered to the one-China policy, he noted.

Cannon arrived in Beijing on Saturday for an official visit at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.
