At least 16 militants were killed in a clash between security forces and militants in Pakistan's Mohmand agency bordering Afghanistan, according to local TV reports.

The state-run PTV said that the security forces launched counter attack after the militants attacked a check post in the agency.

Two security personnel were also killed when the militants attacked check post at the Spinkai Tangai area, some 25 km from Ghalani, the headquarters of Muhmand Agency.

Local officials were quoted as saying that three security personnel were injured while three others were missing. They said that the militants used rockets to attack the newly-built check post.

Officials said that a large number of militants have moved to Muhmand Agency from Bajaur, where the security forces are engaged in offensive against Taliban militants.

Meanwhile the security forces continued operation against the militants in Buner district in the northwest.

The military said that over 100 militants had been killed in the operation which began on April 28. Army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said Friday that the forces were facing stiff resistance in parts of Buner.
