The global financial crisis could lead Europe to enhance its ties with China and Russia, a visiting Belgian labor party official said in Havana on Tuesday.
If the crisis in the US continues, it is the tendency that the European Union (EU) would upgrade its collaboration with Beijing and Moscow, said Baudouin Deckers, a member of the Political Bureau of the Labor Party of Belgium (PTB).
"The economic crisis can lead Europe to break with its main ally, the United States, or at least to a reconstruction of its economic ties with Russia and China," Deckers told reporters.
"We can say there will be a union and disunion among these countries," said Deckers, who is on a visit to Cuba.
Deckers, who is responsible for the party's international relations affairs, said that while some EU states totally support the United States, some others do not agree with the US policy.
About the crisis in the EU, Deckers said the situation is like "save yourself".
