Adjust font size:

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Friday gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Liberia) Regulation 2009 and the United Nations Sanctions (Liberia) Regulation 2008 (Repeal) Regulation.

The regulation, except the provisions of the regulation that relate to financial sanctions, came into effect on the same date, says the HKSAR government in a statement.

The provisions of the regulation that relate to financial sanctions and the repeal regulation will come into effect on March 20.

"The regulation implements sanctions against Liberia imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1854 and continues the implementation of the existing financial sanctions against Liberia under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1532,"a government spokesman said.

The sanctions under the regulation include prohibition against the supply, delivery and carriage of arms and related material to Liberia, and prohibition against the provision of technical training or assistance related to the supply, delivery, manufacture, maintenance or use of arms and related material to certain persons.

The sanctions also include prohibition against the entry into or transit through the HKSAR by certain persons, and prohibition against making available to or for the benefit of certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources.
