28 people were killed and 57 others injured in a suicide bombing targeted police recruits outside police academy in Baghdad on Sunday, an Interior Ministry source said.
"Our latest reports said that eight policemen and three civilians were killed, along with 16 people wounded by the attack, " the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
A suicide bomber blew up his explosive vest among a crowd of people lined up at the rear of the Police Academy building in eastern Baghdad to sign up to join the Iraqi police, the source said.
Earlier the source put the toll at two killed and eight others injured.
Despite the security gains in recent months in Iraq, there are still sporadic bombings, which shape setback to the Iraqi government.
