The security forces of Madagascar have retaken government buildings from the opposition, reports from news agencies said on Friday.
According to the reports from Reuters, the Madagascan government regained the control of the ministry buildings hours after they were taken by the opposition.
The news agency quoted a statement from Madagascan Internal Security Minister Desire Rasolofomanana as saying the ministries seized by the opposition had been retaken.
In a drive to bring down the Madagascan government led by President Marc Ravalomananan, opposition leader Andry Rajoelina, who was also former mayor of the capital city, has announced the establishment of a transitional government and appointed ministers of the transitional government.
For the past week, the ministers of the transitional government and opposition supporters have tried to take over government buildings.
The opposition claimed on Thursday that they had taken over four government ministries, namely the ministries of Public Security, Internal Affairs, Education, and Land Reform.
The reports also quoted police as saying that 50 opposition supports were arrested during the operation.
Rajoelina, 34, was dismissed as mayor of the capital city by the Madagascan government early this month following a mass riot late in January.
Dozens of people have been killed in the riots in the country.
The current political crisis began in December when President Marc Ravalomanana ordered to close Rajoelina's private radio and television station for its broadcasting an interview with his predecessor Didier Ratsiraka, who has been living in exile in France since he was taken over by Ravalomanana in 2002.
