Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will attend the 2008 Asia Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) on Dec. 2 held in Hong Kong, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang announced on Friday.
The CGI was initiated in 2005 by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, aiming at addressing some of the world's most pressing issues, including energy, climate change, education, global health and poverty.
The CGI Asia Meeting in Hong Kong will be the first CGI meeting to be held outside the United States. Each CGI Asia participant is expected to make a commitment to address a specific problem.
