Chinese president meets counterpart of Philippines

Chinese President Hu Jintao met in Beijing on Saturday with President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games on Friday night.

Hu welcomed Arroyo to the Beijing Olympics opening and thanked her for her country's support for the Beijing Games.

The Chinese president said he is willing to exchange views with Arroyo during the meeting on the development of bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.

Arroyo praised the opening of the Beijing Games as a magnificent and unforgettable event, in which she felt the Chinese people's enthusiasm and saw China's immense and fruitful work in organizing the Games
