Chinese, Canadian FMs hold phone talks on Olympics, Tibet

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held phone talks with his Canadian counterpart Maxime Bernier on Monday to discuss issues of common concern including the Beijing Olympics and Tibet, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

Bernier expressed support for Beijing's hosting of the 2008 Olympic Games, saying his country will sent an official team to attend the opening ceremony in Beijing.

He told Yang that Canada adheres to the one China policy and Tibet is an inalienable part of China.

Yang reiterated China's policy and stand on Tibet.

He stressed that the Olympic Games blongs to the whole world, saying the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be a success with support from the governments and peoples of all countries.

Both officials expressed desire to intensify efforts to develop relations between the two countries.
