Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus voiced opposition to the politicization of the Tibet issue and a boycott of the Beijing Olympic Games, according to reports from Vilnius on Wednesday.
In a written interview with Xinhua, Adamkus said the interests of athletes should be taken into consideration when deciding whether to attend Olympics. The athletes have made arduous efforts for four years just to have a chance to compete in the Olympic Games.
Bearing this in mind, Lithuania will dispatch its delegation to participate in the Beijing Olympic Games, the president said.
Adamkus said stopping all violence and conflicts during the games is in accordance with the Olympic tradition, therefore he said he believed such a tradition and the Olympic spirit will reunite people across the world in peace and friendship.
