Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo on Friday met
separately with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and National
Security Advisor Stephen Hadley to exchange views on the bilateral
relationship and international and regional issues of mutual
concern.
Dai, who co-chaired the fourth round of the Sino-US strategic
dialogue with Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte on
Wednesday and Thursday, said the Sino-US relationship has witnessed
great progress in recent years and both sides should make joint
efforts to further broaden common interests, enhance strategic
mutual trust and promote bilateral cooperation.
Dai stressed that both sides should also handle the Taiwan issue
properly to ensure a sound and steady development of the bilateral
relationship and contribute to global peace and development.
Expressing satisfaction with the strategic dialogue, the US side
said US-Chinese relations are based on a solid foundation and the
world will benefit from a strong China, as well as greater
cooperation between the two countries in dealing with common
problems.
The US side also reaffirmed its one-China policy and ruled out
any change in that policy.
