FM Li Meets Icelandic Health Officials
Adjust font size:

Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met in Beijing Thursday with senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Social Security of Iceland.

Li exchanged views on the campaign for the post of World Health Organization (WHO) director-general with Siv Fridleifsdottir, Minister of Health and Social Security of Iceland, and David A. Gunnarsson, permanent secretary of the Icelandic health ministry and a candidate for the WHO post.

The WHO Executive Board decided in May on a November timetable for electing a new director-general for the organization. The decision follows the sudden death of Director-General Dr LEE Jong-wook on May 22. Lee was from South Korea.

China announced on July 25 to recommend Margaret Chan from Hong Kong to run for the post.
