China hopes the US will loosen its export controls and expand
its high-technology exports to China, said a senior official with
China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) during his meeting with a
visiting US official.
Wei Jianguo, vice minister of MOC told US Under Secretary of
Commerce David H. McCormick that high-tech trade is important to
the two countries and it would be beneficial for China and the US
to further the cooperation in the sector.
McCormick said that the US is satisfied with China's cooperation
on high-tech trade and is willing to expand its civilian high-tech
exports to China.
In recent years, China and US have strengthened their
cooperation on high-tech trade. The two countries reached a
consensus on the issue at the meetings of China-US Joint Commission
on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) in 2004 and 2006.
Wei said that cooperation on high-tech trade between the two
countries is making progress and expanding high-tech exports to
China will benefit the people of the two countries.
