The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) on Thursday donated
US$50,000 to the Red Cross Society of the Philippines to help its
relief efforts after a massive landslide.
The devastating landslide occurred on February 17 in Southern
Leyte Province in the central Visayas region, burying a village.
The disaster has left at least 94 dead, 19 injured and 982 missing,
according to official figures.
President Hu Jintao sent a message of condolence to Philippine
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the heavy casualties and
property loss caused by the landslide right after the
catastrophe.
The Chinese government has decided to offer US$1 million worth
of emergency relief for the Philippine government to help its
disaster-relief efforts.
