Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alexeyev said on
Monday Russia adheres to the one-China policy.
Russia has taken note of Taiwan authorities' leader Chen
Shui-bian's recent "Taiwan independence" remarks, Alexeyev said at
a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang. The
Russian government has all along adhered to the one-China principle
and supported China's efforts toward reunification, he said.
Russia offered its support for China's anti-secession law
shortly after China's National People's Congress approved it last
year, Alexeyev said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry will soon issue a statement
reiterating its one-China stand and opposition to "Taiwan
independence," he said.
