Chinese mainland reports 9 more A/H1N1 flu cases

Nine more A/H1N1 flu cases were confirmed on the Chinese mainland Monday, bringing the total number to 89.

Six new cases were reported in the southwestern Sichuan Province, and the patients were all infected through local transmission, the Sichuan Health Department said.

They were all Chinese and included four women and two men.

In Shanghai, a 47-year-old Chinese-American woman tested positive for the flu, said the municipal government.

In the southeastern city of Fuzhou, Fujian Province, a 12-year-old American boy was confirmed infected with A/H1N1 flu, the Provincial Health Department said. He was from New York and arrived in Fuzhou Friday.

Also Monday, a new flu case was confirmed in southern Guangdong Province, said the Ministry of Health, but no personal information about the patient was released.

So far, the Chinese mainland has registered 89 confirmed A/H1N1 patients, of whom 50 have been discharged from hospital, and 39 are being treated, the Ministry of Health said.

There have been no reports of deaths from A/H1N1 flu on the Chinese mainland.
