Confirmed cases of A/H1N1 flu in Brazil reach 9

The Brazilian Health Ministry on Thursday evening confirmed another case of A/H1N1 flu, bringing the total number of infected people in the country to nine.

According to the ministry, the patient is a 39-year-old man from Sao Paulo state. He was infected with the flu virus during a trip to the United States, from where he returned Tuesday. On Wednesday, the patient was admitted to a hospital.

Brazil had not registered new confirmed case of A/H1N1 flu since May 10. The other 8 people infected with the flu in the country have all left hospital after going through the contagion phase.

The ministry also stated that there are 14 suspected cases in the country, down from 17 on Wednesday.

According to the World Health Organization, the flu has already killed 85 people in Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica and the United States. The number of confirmed cases of the disease has exceeded 11,000 worldwide.
