Authorities in the southern Chinese boom city Shenzhen seized
more than 90,000 fake Viagra tablets and some other fake impotence
drugs in a recent raid of a local biotech firm.
Shenzhen police, in collaboration with the city's food and drug
and quality inspection watchdogs, raided the Shenzhen Jinshuibao
Biotech Firm on Thursday after they received customer's complaints
of fake drugs on the market.
They also found seven fake official seals including one of the
Guangdong provincial food and drug administration and the
provincial disease control and prevention center, a spokesman with
the Nanshan branch of the Shenzhen municipal public security bureau
said on Saturday.
The fake Viagra tablets alone involved more than 9 million yuan
(US$1.15 million), he said.
Police have detained the legal representative and general
manager of the firm.
The Ministry of Public Security said earlier this week that China
has seized more than a ton of fake drugs for impotence, bird flu
and malaria during the past two years of crackdown.
