Shanghai
Guanshengyuan Food Company Wednesday refuted claims that
carcinogenic formaldehyde was detected in its exported confection
to the Philippines, adding that they haven't received any official
inspection report from the Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs
(DFDA).
The company
claimed that no carcinogenic substance had been ever used in the
production of "White Rabbit" creamy candy.
The company
said on Thursday morning that tests done by the SGS, the world's
leading inspection, verification, testing and certification
company, had found no formaldehyde in its candy exports sampled
from 10 containers.
Some foreign
media reported recently that the Philippine DFDA has found
formaldehyde in two China-made confections and two raisin biscuits
while conducting an inspection that lasted for over a fortnight.
"White Rabbit", an esteemed and well-known Chinese candy brand
produced by Shanghai Guanshengyuan Food Company, was on the
list.
The other
edibles are milk candy from Jinjiang City, east China's Fujian Province, raisin biscuits produced in
Dongguan, south China's Guangdong Province, and in Yongkang, east
China's Zhejiang Province.
The Shanghai
Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision also echoed the news
the same day. Their officials announced that they would begin an
investigation to verify the authenticity of the claims. The
investigation results will be soon released.
