The Shanghai Charity Foundation will cooperate with Target
Corporation, an American retail chain with no outlets on the
mainland, to establish a library for sick children in the city this
October, the foundation announced yesterday.
Target has donated US$20,500 to the foundation for the library,
which will be located in the new Children's Hospital of Fudan
University in Minhang District.
The funds will provide books, furniture and other educational
materials for children at the hospital. The foundation plans to buy
1,000 books in the first year and will buy 7,000 books over the
next two years.
The library will be able to hold 600 children at one time, and
during the course of a year will be able to serve more than 20,000
children.
Laysha Ward, vice president of the corporation's Community
Relations Department, said the company aims to get involved in more
non-government organization partnerships in the education field in
China in the future.
