A 35-year-old man and his girlfriend had reason to smile as they
left the Hospital in Guangdong on Friday: after a successful
reconstructive surgery he now had a penis.
The unfortunate man, surnamed Zhen, had his most significant
appendage and his testicles bitten off by a dog when he was a
boy.
Doctors at the No. 2 Hospital affiliated with the
Guangzhou-based Sun Yat-sen University used skin and muscles from
his chest and bone from his hip to reconstruct a penis.
Zhen, a worker for a machine plant in Xinyi, declined to be
interviewed, but his girlfriend told reporters that they very much
appreciated the efforts of the hospital and plastic surgeon Prof.
Zhang Jinming.
Zhen had suffered physiological and psychological pressures
after he became an adult. He couldn't have sex, he couldn't stand
to urinate and he has a high-pitched voice and no body hair.
After repeated requests from his girl friend, Zhen went to see
Prof. Zhang early last month and the surgery was conducted on
Jan.11.
Zhen's newly constructed organ is 14 centimeters long, Zhang
said.
"He can have a sex life and enjoy pleasant sensations -- but not
as intensely as other people because he still doesn't have
testicles," Zhang said.
