An official in charge of state-owned assets supervision in south China's Hainan Province has been fired from his post and expelled from the the Communist Party of China (CPC) for bribery.
The disciplinary commission of the CPC Hainan provincial committee said Monday, the official Wang Junwu, 49, took advantage of his post as general manager of the Hainan Tourist Corporation between 1996 and 2008 taking bribes worth 9.53 million yuan (1.4 million U.S. dollars).
Wang allegedly took the money when the Hainan Tourist Corporation was selling its land. He was arrested March 13 and now faces criminal charges.
The commission said Wang also "seriously violated other disciplines" beside taking bribes. Although Xinhua asked, no other details were given.
Wang became the deputy director of the Hainan Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission in April last year.
