Qiang Wei Elected Party Chief of Qinghai

Qiang Wei was elected secretary of the Qinghai Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Sunday.

Qiang, born in March 1953, was elected to the post at the first plenary session of the 11th CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee held in Xining, capital of the northwestern province.

Qiang is a native of Wuxi in east China's Jiangsu Province, and he joined the CPC in 1975.

He had served as deputy secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee between March 2001 and March 2007.

He is now an alternate member of the 16th CPC Central Committee and has served as secretary of the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee since March this year.
