Beijing Remaining Alert Against SARS
Adjust font size:
Beijing will not relax its efforts in fighting severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), though the municipality has made great achievements in SARS prevention and treatment work, said Beijing Acting Mayor Wang Qishan.

Wang made the remarks Wednesday during a meeting with Henry Paulson, chief executive of Goldman Sachs Group Inc..

Wang noted that the new SARS cases have remained at a low level for the past ten days, and no new cases were even reported on some days.

"We will not let up until complete success in the fight against SARS has been achieved," said Wang.

He noted that Beijing is now building a complete disease prevention and treatment system.

Paulson expressed admiration for the efficient efforts Beijing had made in controlling the spread of SARS in a very short period. He also looked forward to cooperating with Beijing in the securities market.
