China's Ministry of Commerce issued a circular Sunday to local
departments in charge of foreign trade and economic cooperation and
state-level economic and technological development zones, requiring
them to help foreign-funded enterprises prevent severe acute
respiratory syndrome (SARS).
These departments and development zones are required to timely
inform the enterprises of the local SARS situation and preventive
measures, and help foreign staff and their family members make
preparations against the epidemic.
They are also required to help the enterprises overcome their
difficulties and maintain normal business operations.
According to the circular, these departments and development zones
should reform their traditional ways to attract foreign investment
by means of modern information technology.
They are required to follow closely postponed investment projects,
keep close contact with foreign investors, and provide them with
related information in time so as to fulfill this year's target in
soliciting foreign investment.
