The Anti-Monopoly Law is regarded as China’s Economic Constitution. After the establishment of a socialist market economy in 1993, there were plans to enact anti-monopoly legislation in 1994. But the Anti-Monopoly Law languished for 13 years before being formally passed. The law forbids monopolies and the elimination or restriction of competition, promotes orderly market competition and the full employment of social resources, with the aim of creating greater social wealth and benefiting consumers.
