A fan of guns since childhood, Wang took shooting in Liaoyang Spare-time Sports Schoo at 15 and, later in 1977 he joined the Liaoning provincial shooting and then the national team in 1980. 

Personal best:

1992 Barcelona Olympic Games - Gold Medal of air pistol,

2004 Athens Olympic Games -1st ten meter air pistol

Honors:

1985 - Awarded the title of International Master of Sports

Wang Yifu is the only Chinese athlete who has taken part in the Olympic Games for six consecutive times from 1984 to 2000.
