Recently a consumer surnamed Xing told Henan Business Daily that a big red pepper she had purchased was found to be carrying a baby red pepper inside.
A red big pepper is found to contain a baby pepper in this photo taken on February 25, 2008.
Consumer Xing, who is an obstetrician in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, suspected that the red pepper became pregnant as a result of effects from hormones.
Professor Zhao Huijie with Henan Agricultural University believes that two red pepper ovaries joined each other during their growth, causing one to envelop the other.
