Many wild animals from Africa, including elephants, giraffes and
zebras, at the Beijing Zoo have all acclimatized themselves to the
cool conditions in China and are living relaxing lives.
Some of them were presented to China by African countries as
gifts in the 1970s. More recent additions include the gelada baboon
from Sudan and spotted hyena from Egypt.
"Most of the animals are so accustomed to life at the zoo that
they have bred here for four generations, like the giraffe, which
first came to Beijing in 1975," a senior zookeeper surnamed Pan
said.
