An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Minahasa peninsula of Indonesia on Monday, the China Earthquake Network said.
The quake hit the peninsula (1.3 degrees north and 122.1 degrees east) at 1:02 AM Beijing time. Its origin was about 33 kilometers underground.
The epicenter was in the sea and about 135 kilometers away from Indonesia's Sulawesi island, according to the earthquake network.
