Shanghai's biggest garbage treatment center opened in Pudong New Area yesterday. It is expected to treat a daily maximum of 1,000 tons of solid waste produced in Pudong's central areas.

World-leading energy-saving technology has been installed at the Shanghai Environmental Pudong Solid Waste Transfer Transport Operational Center, the city's fifth garbage-treatment center.

"The entire transport and processing procedures are conducted in a closed system and under negative pressure to prevent environmental pollution," said Operation Director Chen Wei.
